Beverly Sicard treasures her photo with with Mayor Dean Mazzarella at Riverside Village’s fall party. Sometimes in life you find just the right place to be, whether it is a job or a home, and Beverly Sicard found that place 40 years ago.
Mrs. Sicard was honored this past fall at a celebration at Riverside Village for being the longest resident of the complex, noting her four decade tenure as a resident.
Riverside was ten years old when the Sicard family moved in, and now that Beverly’s children have all grown and moved on, she decided she was so happy there she wanted to stay.
“When I first moved in here, I met a lot of very nice people. It was a nice play for my then young children to be. There is a playground, basketball court and a beautiful swimming pool. I still have old photos of me and the kids at the pool,” she began.
Another asset she now finds at Riverside is that it is on the bus route, so getting around town is easy for those with no cars.
“I still have my car, but it’s nice to know the bus comes by so if I need it, I can use it,” the spry 82 year old said.
She finds the security to be a comfort to her, as they are “the best around. I do feel safe here,” she noted.
Having lived in a few of the spacious apartments, Mrs. Sicard is very pleased with her current apartment as it affords her ample room to move about.
Lee Johnson Erikson, Assistant Property Manager said Mrs. Sicard is a wonderful tenant.
“It is amazing in this day and age that someone will stay in the same place for so long. Society in general moves around, but to have someone root themselves in one place is unique. She is a very sweet lady and we love having her living here,” Erikson said.
Leasing agent Colby McPhee echoed those sentiments, noting, “Mrs. Sicard is always a pleasure to be around. She is definitely one of a kind.”
Mrs. Sicard has nothing but praise for the staff at Riverside, saying, “no matter what I need, they are here. They do take very good care of me,”
At the fall party, Mayor Dean Mazzarella posed for a photo with Mrs. Sicard, which she treasures.
“I couldn’t believe it, he wanted his picture with me. The company that owns the complex was celebrating their 50th anniversary, so they celebrated my 40th at the same time. It was quite the party,” she smiled.
Mrs. Sicard saved her very first rent receipt from December 18, 1972, and planned on bringing it in to the office staff to admire.
“I kept it all this time, I think the staff will get a kick out of it,” she laughed.
Her handsomely decorated apartment gives her a view of the back part of the complex from which she can watch the squirrels romp around the treed area.
